FOLIAGE: Heart shaped and have a coppery-green hue when they emerge, turning dark green and then colouring to yellowy-red in autumn. Fallen leaves reported to smell like cinnamon, apples, burnt sugar or toffee.
FLOWERS and FRUIT: Tiny flowers (red on male trees and green on female trees) appear in spring before the foliage. Pollinated flowers on female trees are followed by clusters of greenish pods
DESCRIPTION: A deciduous tree with a pyramidal habit when young, gaining a more rounded shape when mature.

TOLERANCES: Frost tolerant. Prefers a moist position. Moderate water requirements. Prefers a full sun to partly shaded position protected from strong winds and afternoon sun. No serious insect or disease problems.
